In the year 2020, human moderators scattered across the world are faced with the grueling task of sorting through misinformation and graphic content posted to the internet every minute of every day. These people are protecting us from millions of posts circulating false and harmful information to the masses that frequent social media and other information sharing platforms on the internet. The human brain is only capable of so much, and even with their utmost diligence, toxic posts on social media manage to slip through the cracks and spread harmful narratives throughout modern society. But in the year 2030 a new era of moderation has risen to prevent this. A fortified AI system that sorts through every post, on every platform, before it even has the chance to reach the eyes of any human being. This algorithm embedded into this moderator fact-checks every claim made, disposing of any misinformation, and scans for graphic content too sensitive to be shared across the internet. This small but mighty technological device is the alpha device that the world has always needed. We call him Alpha-moderator and his nickname is ALMO. In order to understand who ALMOis you first need to know what a moderator's job is: Moderator.
ALMO spends his days in the highest point of the Empire State Building, far from the grasp of anyone. He has his own wifi network that only his systems can access, along with a satellite dish, telephone pole, and other amenities. He is guarded by a large group of swat men and has a military-grade firewall to prevent anyone from entering. Due to his ability to never run out of battery and have unlimited giga-bites, he is constantly receiving messages from devices all over the world. The reason for this insane security and remote location is due to the extent of ALMO duties. He holds the power to set society back to the way it was in 2020. Where citizens were brainwashed by false propaganda and horrific content being posted all over the internet, no matter the consequences. Anything about to be published online must pass through ALMO, a filter that cannot be compromised and rigorously verifies all information attempting to enter the internet. It allows for no opinions and is entirely objective.
Since ALMO works around the clock, a typical day for him includes both the day and the night. His sole responsibility is to review the information he receives from anyone attempting to post something to the internet anywhere in the globe. He goes through the information one individual at a time and simply checks to make sure the information is reliable and accurate. It will obtain a green check if it has passed the three-step process of determining the reliability of the submitter, confirming that the information is entirely accurate and empty of opinions, and finally determining that there is no harmful or biased content. Once the green check is initiated it will be sent back out to whichever platform it was requested to be put on and immediately put on the internet for the world to see.
False information and fake news are no longer dividing people's worlds; instead, everyone has sincere and true relationships with the internet. Questions such as, Who is telling the truth? Am I spreading fake news? Why did I fall for that misinformation? Are no longer a massive burden on their lives since ALMO is here to protect them from falling prey to the outdated lifestyle of 2020. 2030 lives this lavish lifestyle where they don’t have to think twice about the information they are reading and receiving online. The enjoyment and ease that comes with digital media being distributed, created, and consumed is no longer a dangerous weapon but instead a strength. Due to the fact that ALMO can be fully trusted you know that the interactions you receive in the real and digital world are accurate and honest. 2030 can scroll indefinitely on Instagram, websites, and other platforms without having to stop, consider the source, and decide whether or not to believe the information they are about to read. Who wouldn’t want to live in this utopia and authentic environment? There is nothing more authentic than the truth.
Imagine in 2030 another pandemic broke loose like it did in March 2020, it would be a totally different story. A world struck by a pandemic with ALMO in it would move in a much different manner. Throughout Covid the mass media took advantage of the chaos, they created stories and publicized news that had the potential to sway the people's view in whatever direction they wanted. No one knew how to handle Covid since it was a brand new virus, not even the doctors, it was a trial and error time for the United States. But people felt the need to interject their opinion and solutions about how to solve this worldwide pandemic when in reality they had no factual knowledge on the material. With ALMO involved there would be less room for any mis information because the news articles would be strictly statistical and quantitative. No false information would be published nor would any articles based on opinion, leaving no room for opinions just room for the truth. Almo would allow for the truth in numbers could allow for the social aspect of a pandemic to reside in a more rapid manner than the most recent pandemic we encountered.
ALMO has permanently altered the lives of people in the year 2030 and will keep bringing people together in the years to come, both in good and bad circumstances. Nobody wants to live in a society where there are secrets and falsehoods, so if this tiny AI system could eliminate all of that suffering and stress, why wouldn't everyone live like this?
